JOHNSTOWN, PA – Robbie Zinsmeister (Hatfield/North Penn) tallied seven of the Crimson Hawks 27 hits as IUP swept a neutral site doubleheader with Clarion, winning 4-2 and 22-5 on Sunday at The Point Stadium in Johnstown.

The doubleheader between the two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West schools was a non-conference matchup as IUP improved to 6-4 on the season while Clarion fell to 0-6.

Kyle Zambanini (Jerome/Conemaugh Twp.) picked up the win in the first game, improving to 2-0 by allowing seven hits and two earned runs in the complete game. Zinsmeister went 2-for-2 with a double, reaching base in all four plate appearances.

The Crimson Hawks got all the runs they needed in the bottom of the first inning, scoring three runs on one hit with a pair of Clarion errors. Zinsmeister led off the inning with his double and later scored the game's first run on a sacrifice fly from Troy Foster (Shamong, NJ/Seneca). Dylan Tice (Perkasie/Pennridge) and Jordan Giannini (Latrobe/Greater Latrobe) also scored on those Clarion Eagles miscues.

IUP picked up run number four in the fifth when a groundout by Tyler Mroz (Pittsburgh/Chartiers Valley) scored Zinsmeister from third.

The Golden Eagles scored their lone runs in their half of the sixth on a two RBI single by Bill Hasson.

Zinsmeister finished 5-for-7 in game two, adding two more doubles and scoring four runs. IUP scored in each of the first six innings, including four runs in the second and nine in the fifth. The Crimson Hawks collected 22 hits in game two, at least one in each inning.

The fifth inning was led off by a single from Giannini, following by two more base hits from Ricky Jones and David McNeill (Pittsburgh/Our Lady of Sacred Heart) to load the bases. John Beatty (New Castle/Mohawk) then drew a walk and Zinsmeister singled to bring in a pair of runs.

Tice forced another walk to bring home a run and Foster singled to make it four runs in the inning. The other runs would come from RBI singles by Giannini and McNeill along with a passed ball and a wild pitch.

Five different pitchers saw time on the mound for the Crimson Hawks as Austin Mock (State College/State College) picked up the win by throwing the opening three innings to move to 2-1 on the year. Demetrius Christofes (Grantville/Lower Dauphin), Matt Szukics (Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley), Kyle Zaorski (Reading/Muhlenberg) and Jared Weed (Washington Crossing/Council Rock North) each tossed an inning the rest of the way combining for six strikeouts and just two hits.

The Crimson Hawks head to North Carolina next weekend with a pair of doubleheaders against Chowan on Saturday and Sunday.
