Offense Shines as Softball Blanks Seton Hill 14-0

SALEM, VA – Jasa Mitchell (Snow Shoe/Bald Eagle Area) and Jen Beaver (Chester Springs/Owen J. Roberts) each smashed homeruns to highlight a 14-0 five-inning blowout win for the IUP softball team over Seton Hill on Friday in the first day of the Atlantic Region Challenge in Virginia.

The win improves the Crimson Hawks to 2-1 on the year in their first action since Feb. 15.

Mitchell finished the day 2-for-4 with that homerun, a double and a career-high six RBI. Both of her hits scored three runs, as her double came in the second to make the score 5-0 while her homer capped the scoring in the fifth.

Beaver's round tripper was a two-run shot in the fourth to make it 11-0 as she finished the day 1-for-3.

Alexa Campbell (Manheim/Manheim Central ) started in the circle and picked up her second win of the season, striking out a pair of batters and giving up just two hits in four innings.

Amanda Segrist (Glenwood, MD/Glenelg) was responsible for the first runs of the game with a two-out, two RBI single in the first.

With a 5-0 lead in the fourth, Stef Poates (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) and Segrist went back-to-back with run-scoring doubles followed by Beaver's homer to help make it 11-0 before Mitchell's shot in the fifth.

Segrist finished 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI while Mary Ward (Hatfield/North Penn) went 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored. Poates returned to the field for the first time in a year, going 1-for-4 with a two-run double.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action on Saturday with games against Charleston at 11:00 a.m. and West Virginia State at 1:00 p.m.
