Baseball Cruises to Doubleheader Sweep Saturday

FREDERICK, MD - Stephen Cooke (Severn, MD/Archbishop Curley) hurled a one-hit shutout in game two as the IUP baseball team cruised to a pair of wins in Maryland Saturday. The Crimson Hawks downed West Virginia Tech 6-2 in game one before defeating Bluefield State 13-0 in the afternoon.

Cooke was outstanding on the rubber Saturday, striking out eight in a complete game effort. Kyle Zambanini (Jerome/Conemaugh Twp.) got the start for IUP in game one and gave up just three hits in six scoreless innings.

Dylan Tice (Perkasie/Pennridge) was unbelievable at the plate all day for IUP, going 9-for-10 with four RBI and four runs scored in two games. Tice was 4-of-5 with a pair of runs scored in game one, and 5-for-5 with four RBI in game two.

Robbie Zinsmeister (Hatfield/North Penn) also had a strong outing for the Crimson Hawks, going 4-for-8 with a triple, two RBI and five runs scored on the afternoon. Jordan DeLuca (Broad Top/Tussey Mountain) was 3-for-7 with two RBI and three runs scored, while Jordan Giannini (Latrobe/Greater Latrobe) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of RBI.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action tomorrow afternoon against Davis & Elkins. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
