INDIANA, PA – Late inning surges by Lock Haven in both games of the doubleheader were too much for the Crimson Hawks as IUP lost both to the Bald Eagles in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Central softball action on Friday afternoon.

The Crimson Hawks lost game one 4-1 and game two 12-6.

IUP falls to 17-10 overall on the year and 3-5 in the Central while Lock Haven improves to 21-6 and 7-1.

The Bald Eagles picked up a run in the second inning of game one as Tara Senn (Eagle/Downington East) allowed just four hits through the first five. Lock Haven got to her in the sixth with three runs on four hits, including two doubles, and the Bald Eagles took a 4-0 lead into the seventh inning.

Mary Ward (Hatfield/North Penn) doubled to center to lead off things in the seventh and advanced to third two batters later on a single by Jen Beaver (Chester Springs/Owen J. Roberts). A Christi Mauk (Claysburg/Claysburg-Kimmel) sacrifice fly scored Ward but that's all IUP could muster in the final inning.

Lock Haven again struck first in game two, getting a pair of RBI singles to take a 3-0 lead in its half of the second. The Crimson Hawks responded in the bottom half as Stef Poates (Yorktown, VA/Grafton) smacked a two-run homerun, her third round tripper of the season, to make it a 3-2 game.

IUP took the lead the very next inning with a pair of runs, getting RBI singles from both Ashley Strack (Johnstown/Westmont Hilltop) and Allison Viguers (West Chester/West Chester East) to go on top 4-3.

The Bald Eagles came back in the fifth with three runs on four more hits but again the Crimson Hawks put their rally caps on with back-to-back RBI doubles by Ward and Jasa Mitchell (Snow Shoe/Bald Eagle Area) to tie the game at 6-6 heading into the seventh.

Things would come unraveled, however, as Lock Haven scored a couple of runs before a grand slam by Nicole Smith gave the Bald Eagles a 12-6 lead and ultimately the win.

Senn also took the loss in game two as she drops to 8-4 on the year.

Strack went a combined 3-for-7 with a double while Ward had a pair of doubles and scored three runs. Mauk also collected three hits on the day and Beaver finished 2-for-5.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action tomorrow as they travel to Kutztown to face the Golden Bears. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
