Baseball on the Wrong End of a Bloomsburg Sweep

BLOOMSBURG, PA – Bloomsburg tallied 22 hits and 14 runs as the Crimson Hawks dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the Huskies in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover baseball action on Wednesday afternoon.

Bloomsburg took game one 11-5 and game two 3-0. The Crimson Hawks drop to 21-20 on the season while Bloomsburg improves to 16-26 after the four-game midweek sweep.

IUP held a 3-2 lead through two innings of game onewith the help of RBI singles off the bats of Aaron Lupia (Middletown/Middletown) and Robbie Zinsmeister (Hatfield/North Penn). The Huskies started to take control in the third with four runs on six hits before tallying at least one run over the next three innings to take an 11-5 lead after six.

The Crimson Hawks picked up a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings with Troy Foster (Shamong, NJ/Seneca) and Ryan Uhl (St. Marys/St. Marys) crossing the plate.

In just his second appearance on the mound this season, Hunter Bigler (Washington/Trinity) picked up the loss in three innings of work. Zinsmeister, Foster and Jordan Giannini (Latrobe/Greater Latrobe) each collected a pair of hits in the opener.

It was a lower scoring affair in game two with Bloomsburg collecting a run in each the second, third and sixth innings. IUP managed just three hits, with two of those coming in the seventh inning alone.

Zach DeTillio (Pittsburgh/Seneca Valley) went all six innings for the Crimson Hawks on the mound, giving up seven hits and striking out three.

The Crimson Hawks return to PSAC West play this weekend with a four game series against Lock Haven. Action gets underway on Friday at IUP with the first pitch coming at 1:00 p.m.
