Baseball Falls to Shippensburg in Single Game on Tuesday

Dylan Tice had two hits for IUP on Tuesday. The Crimson Hawks will face California in a four-game series this weekend that will help decide the PSAC playoff picture.

INDIANA, PA – The IUP baseball team dropped an 11-0 nine-inning game to Shippensburg in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover action on Tuesday afternoon at Dougherty Field.

The loss drops the Crimson Hawks to 25-21 on the season while Shippensburg improves to 26-18.

The Red Raiders got on the board right away in the first, putting together a pair of RBI singles to go on top 2-0. After a scoreless second inning from IUP starter Zach DeTillio (Pittsburgh/Seneca Valley), Shippensburg tacked on three more in the third to take a 5-0 lead.

Shippensburg added runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh, and collected 15 total hits in the game.

Five different pitchers saw time on the mound for the Crimson Hawks. Mike Megahan (Moon Twp./Moon) struck out three and didn't give up a run in 2.1 innings; Matt Douglas (Canonsburg/Canon-McMillan) fanned a pair in two innings; Justin Charles (Dillsburg/Northern York) didn't allow a hit or run in his inning of work and Jared Weed (Washington Crossing/Council Rock North) added a scoreless ninth.

Dylan Tice (Perkasie/Pennridge) had two hits for the Crimson Hawks.

IUP is back in action for this weekend for important series against rival California, currently tied for the final PSAC tournament spot in the Western Division with Slippery Rock. The series gets underway at IUP on Friday with a first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.
