Volleyball Finishes PSAC/Mountain East Crossover Unbeaten

ERIE, PA – The IUP women's volleyball team captured their third straight win Saturday afternoon, defeating West Virginia State 3-1.

The victory comes in the Crimson Hawks' final match of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference/Mountain East Crossover hosted by Gannon University. Friday, IUP defeated both Notre Dame College (OH) and West Virginia Wesleyan 3-1.

The Crimson Hawks were dominant in the first set, coming away with the 25-15 victory. IUP got out to an early 5-1 lead following three straight attack errors from West Virginia State. The Crimson Hawks never looked back and would not allow the Yellow Jackets within two points.

West Virginia State stormed back in the second set, claiming the 25-14 win.

IUP, however, regained control of the match and won the final two sets 25-15 and 25-21.

Elizabeth Sova (Myerstown, Pa. /ELCO) again led the team in kills with 14 on the afternoon. She closes out the crossover with 57 total kills in just three matches. Sova also added three aces and seven blocks against the Yellow Jackets. 

Lisa Kissell (Greensburg, Pa. /Greensburg Salem) had another strong performance, posting 10 kills on 31 total attacks. Carissa Miara (Pittsburgh/West Allegheny) added 36 assists, tying her season-high performance from Friday's win over West Virginia Wesleyan. Ericka Lentz (Reading/Holy Name) added nine kills and 15 digs and Joie Hrapla (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Bishop Canevin) posted 12 digs and a kill. 

With the victory, IUP improves to 3-7 on the season. They will head to Huntingdon, PA Wednesday to take on Juniata in their last non-conference matchup until Oct. 22. The Crimson Haws will open up PSAC play Sept. 27 in Greensburg, PA at the PSAC Crossover, where they'll take on Shippensburg, Millersville, Lock Haven and Pitt-Johnstown.
