SLIPPERY ROCK, PA - A singular goal by
Gabriela Feaser (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) gives IUP their third consecutive win, and second shutout of the season, when they defeated Slippery Rock 1-0 Wednesday.
The goal came in the 23rd minute of play in the first half of the competition. After an IUP corner kick, the ball was deflected in front of the cage.
Chelsea Wanamaker (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley) shot it to Feaser, and she knocked it in for the first and only goal of the game.
Despite Slippery Rock's nine shots recorded, four in the first half and five in the second, they were unable to score. IUP goalkeeper
Darian Shuker (Reading, Pa./Exeter ) saved four shots, with the other five being blocked by the IUP defense. The Crimson Hawks have been playing tough defensively all season, and this game was no exception.
This game, however, is the first of their win's that IUP has not outscored their opponent. Previously this season, the Crimson Hawks recorded 19 shots to Kutztown's 5, and 11 to Lindenwood's 8.
In addition to Feaser, IUP's three shots were attempted by
Casey McGowan (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South). Those three raised her 2014 total shots to 19.
This Crimson Hawk win improved their record to 3-4 overall, 2-3 in the conference.
IUP will take the road again Saturday when they travel to Shippensburg to take on the Lady Raiders at 11:00 a.m. They return home Oct. 11 for a match at 7:00 p.m. against Seton Hill.
