SHIPPENSBURG, PA – In a game in which both teams combined for just six shots on goal, the IUP field hockey team lost a battle with second-ranked Shippensburg 3-0 on Saturday morning.
The loss was the first in four games for the Crimson Hawks, who entered the road contest riding a three-game winning streak. They fall to 3-5 overall on the season and 2-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Shippensburg has now won five straight and is now 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the conference.
The Raiders scored their first goal early in the contest, getting on the board in the ninth minute on a goal by Kendall Beck. She then scored 17 minutes later to put Shippensburg up 2-0 heading into halftime.
IUP totaled four shots on the day, with just two on goal. Both were saved and came at the end of each half.
Shippensburg added its third goal of the game 10 minutes into the second half to put the game away.
The Crimson Hawks continue their road trip as they head to Mansfield on Wednesday to face the Mountaineers.
