Field Hockey Trumps Seton Hill 2-1

INDIANA, PA - IUP field hockey defeates 2-1 Seton Hill on Homecoming Saturday under the lights at George P. Miller Stadium.

The Crimson Hawks played a fierce match against the Griffins, outscoring them 16 to 3, and recording 17 corner kicks to their 3.

The first goal for IUP came in the 22nd minute by Chelsea Wanamaker (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley), her second goal of the season.  Leading up to this goal, IUP kept the ball on their side of the field of a majority of play.  This goal was the only score in the first half, and the teams went into halftime with the Crimson Hawks leading 1-0.

Seton Hill came into the second half fighting, and scored their first, and only, goal after just eight minutes.

Four minutes later, Haley Fidler (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) attacked for the Crimson Hawks and secured the IUP win with her second goal of the season.  This goal came off an assist by Madelyn Mullen (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts).

In addition to Fidler and Wanamaker, other Crimson Hawks recording shots were Tia Barndt (Bloomsburg, Pa./Central Columbia), Casey McGowan (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South), Ericka Griffith (Lititz, Pa./Warwick), Sarah Zielinski (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth) and Jess Kida (Oley, Pa./Oley Valley).  IUP goalkeepers split the game, and Alyssa Lerda (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) posted one save.

This win improved IUP's record to 5-5 overall, 4-4 in the conference.

The Crimson Hawks will face their next opponent Oct. 14 when they travel to Mercyhurst for a matchup with the Lakers.
