Field Hockey Falls to Mercyhurst on the Road

ERIE, PA – The Crimson Hawks' two-game winning streak came to an end on Tuesday as IUP fell to Mercyhurst 3-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) field hockey action in Erie.

The loss drops the Crimson Hawks to 5-6 overall and 4-5 in the PSAC, currently one spot out of the conference tournament with still six games left to play. Mercyhurst improves to 5-6 and 3-4 in the league.

The Lakers scored all of their goals in the opening half, taking a 1-0 lead in just the fourth minute of play. They added quick, back-to-back goals in the 26th and 28th minutes to open things up before the half.

Mercyhurst outshot the Crimson Hawks 10-3 in the game's first 35 minutes, and also boasted an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners.

Haley Fidler (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood) scored IUP's lone goal, connecting from 10 yards out on the left side of the cage in the 63rd minute.

Three of IUP's six games left on the schedule are at home, with that three-game homestand starting this Saturday against No. 2 West Chester (9-2, 6-1).
