INDIANA, PA –
Zhane Brooks (Erie, Pa. /Villa Maria) shot for a season-high 16 points to help lead the No. 25 Crimson Hawks to an 89-56 win over Mansfield in the first day of PSAC crossover action, Tuesday at the Kovalchick Complex.
In addition to her high number of points, Brooks also added three assists and eight rebounds to IUP's overall stats, which included 47 rebounds, 28 assists, nine steals and six blocks.
Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) started off the scoring for the Crimson Hawks just 17 seconds into action. The team took this early lead, and held onto it throughout the entire game. The largest scoring gap of the half came with 6:41 on the clock and a score of 40-15, IUP.
Mansfield went into halftime trailing the Crimson Hawks 47-27. IUP took that large lead, and forced at least 20 points between them and the Mountaineer's throughout the entire second half. The 89-56 victory improved IUP's overall record to 8-0, 4-0 in the PSAC.
In addition to Brooks, other high scoring Crimson Hawks' included Mathe with 12 points and
Leslie Stapleton (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) with 11. Mathe went 5-for-5 in the field and 2-for-2 behind the three-point line. Stapleton and Mathe, who lead the team in assists, added a combined eight tonight.
Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center), team leader in steals, grabbed two tonight in addition to her eight points, four assists and six rebounds.
As a team, the Crimson Hawks made 33-of-66 shots for a 50.0 field-goal percentage. From behind the three-point line, the team earned a percentage of 36.0. At the foul line, IUP made 14-of-20 shots.
Eight members of the team saw action off the bench including Brooks,

Monica Burns (New Stanton, Pa. /Hempfield ),
Alexis Aiken (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Allegheny),
Halle Denman (Beaver Falls, Pa. /Blackhawk),
Marina Wareham (New Wilmington, Pa. /Kennedy Catholic),
Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) and
Amy Graham (Zanesville, Ohio/West Muskingum).
During her 14 minutes on the court, Smith recorded three blocks and two steals for IUP, plus two points and two rebounds.
Tuesday, the USA TODAY Sports Division II Coaches Poll was released, posting the Crimson Hawks at No. 25, their first top 25 appearance of the season. Other PSAC schools to make the cut were Bloomsburg and California (Pa.).
Wednesday, IUP will continue their two days of PSAC crossover action when they play host to the Lock Haven Lady Eagles at the Kovalchick Complex. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
