INDIANA, PA –
Lindsay Stamp (Erie, Pa. /Mercyhurst Prep) earned her sixth 20-point game of the season in Wednesday's 70-59 victory over Lock Haven at the Kovalchick Complex. This win came in the second day of PSAC crossover action.
The Lady Eagles attacked first, and led the Crimson Hawks 6-0 before Stamp scored the first points for IUP with 16:54 on the clock. Lock Haven held onto the lead throughout the rest of the first half, marking the largest scoring gap at 22-15 with three minutes remaining.
By the end of the first half,
Amy Fairman (Creekside, Pa. /Marion Center) was leading the IUP offense with five points, and
Ashley Stoner (Pittsburgh, Pa. /Thomas Jefferson) following close behind with four. Stamp,
Marita Mathe (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana),
Leslie Stapleton (Indiana, Pa. /Indiana) and
Marina Wareham (New Wilmington, Pa. /Kennedy Catholic) had all added three.
IUP made only 7-of-25 shots in the field in the first 20 minutes, and went into the half trailing 22-21. This marked the first time of the season the Crimson Hawks were not leading at halftime.
Three minutes into the second half, IUP took a 25-24 lead after a layup by Mathe, and the team never looked back. The Crimson Hawks led the Lady Eagles the rest of the game, and held them off by at least 10 points for the final 12 minutes of play.
The 70-59 win improved No. 25 IUP's undefeated record to 9-0, 5-0 in the conference.
By the end of the matchup, Stamp had posted 23 total points and six rebounds. Defensively, she added one block and one steal.
Fairman added three steals tonight, making her season total 27 in just nine games. In addition, she tallied 13 points, six assists and five rebounds. Mathe, another impact player, put up 9 points, five rebounds and seven assists.
Other notable players for the Crimson Hawks were Stapleton,
Zhane Brooks (Erie, Pa. /Villa Maria) and Stoner. These three recorded a combined 22 points, six assists and 14 rebounds.
As a team, IUP improved their field goal percentage from 28.0 in the first half to 73.9 in the second half, and finished 24-for-48 in the field. From the foul line, the Crimson Hawks earned 12-of-17 throws.
Off the bench, Wareham,
Alexis Aiken (Pittsburgh, Pa. /North Allegheny), Brooks and
Megan Smith (Blain, Pa./West Perry) all saw playing time for IUP.
The Crimson Hawks return to action Saturday when they travel to Bloomsburg for a rivalry game set for 1:00 p.m.
