ABERDEEN, MD – In what would end up being a pair of lopsided games, the IUP baseball team split a Monday afternoon doubleheader with East Stroudsburg, falling 17-1 before rebounding for a 10-2 win in game two.
The split gives the Crimson Hawks a 4-6 overall record on the year. East Stroudsburg is now 9-2.
Kyle Zaorski (Reading/Muhlenberg) took the loss in the opener, although he only gave up one earned run in six innings of work.
Matt Eperesi (Cranberry Twp./Mars) and
Aaron Lupia (Middletown/Middletown) each went 2-for-3, with Eperesi driving in the Crimson Hawks lone run.
The offense came alive in game two, led by a 4-for-5 day by
Dylan Tice (Perkasie/Pennridge). The shortstop had a pair of doubles and drove in four runs while scoring another.
Chris Calliari (Brockway/Brockway) went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI while
Hunter Bigler (Washington/Trinity) went 1-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Zach DeTillio (Pittsburgh/Seneca Valley) picked up the win, giving up two earned runs in 4.1 innings, walking three and striking out a pair.
The Crimson Hawks are off for a week, returning to the diamond to play Penn State Allegheny in a doubleheader on Monday, March 17 in Washington, Pa.
