Crimson Hawks Run Winning Streak to Four with Shutout Win

Box Score

TAMPA, FL - The Crimson Hawks extended their winning streak to four matches after they picked up a 9-0 win today against Minnesota State-Moorehead in non-conference women's tennis action in Florida.

This posts a 6-3 record on the season for 44th-ranked IUP in addition to its third shutout of the season.

The Crimson Hawks cruised to an easy victory as none of the matches reached a third set. They have only lost 3 individual matches during the teams four match winning streak.

No. 4 Ericka Schnaas and No.6 Alanna McFail (Fort Washington, Md. /St. John's College ) were the first two Crimson Hawks to make quick work of their opponents. They both finished their singles match with identical 6-0, 6-1 victories.  McFail has only dropped two games during her three match winning streak.

Abby McCormick (Bethel Park, Pa. /Bethel Park), who was playing in the No. 2 spot, was the only Crimson Hawk to allow more than three games won in a single set, resulting in the longest match of the day. Though she won a tight first set 6-4, she went on to win a commanding second set 6-2.

Other notable victories today included No. 1 Tanya Timko (Cannonsburg, PA/Chartiers-Houston) winning 6-1, 6-1, and Sophie Butland (Taunton, Somerset U.K./Bishop Fox's Community School) and Rachel Wood (Nottingham, U.K./West Bridgrord) each winning by another identical score of 6-2, 6-1.

The Crimson Hawks also dominated in doubles. Timko and McCormick gave IUP an early lead, winning the No. 1 spot 8-3. Schnaas and Butland also picked up a win in the second spot, 8-5. Earning the Crimson Hawks third point of the day was Ranvita Mahto (Burlington, ON/Robert Bateman) and Wood. After their 8-3 win today, they remain undefeated as doubles partners this spring, holding a 5-0 record.

This was the second of four matches to be played in Florida. The Crimson Hawks will face their toughest opponent yet down south when they take on the ninth-ranked Division II team in the country, Rollins. That game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in Winter Park. The Crimson Hawks last match of their road trip will be back in Tampa on Thursday when they take on the University of Tampa Spartans.
