Shippensburg StatisticsAT A GLANCEAfter winning back-to-back conference titles in 2011 and 2012, the Crimson Hawks are returning to the 2014 PSAC postseason, vying for their third title in four years. Finishing the regular season with a record of 29-13, 22-6, they are entering the tournament as a two seed in the West. IUP will get things underway hosting the third-seeded Shippensburg Red Raiders. This will be the first meeting of the season between the two teams. Shippensburg enters the game with a record of 31-13, 17-11.
ALL-TIME SERIESShippensburg leads the all-time series 43-7, but the Crimson Hawks have claimed victories in two of the last three games. Both wins occurred during the 2011 PSAC tournament when IUP won 8-0 and 3-1.
SCOUTING SHIPPENSBURGFinishing third in the East, the Raiders have an overall record of 31-13 and went 17-11 in conference play. They were the PSAC champions for three straight years in 2003, 2004 and 2005 but have not claimed a title since then. Their longest win-streak came in March, when they rattled off eight straight victories from March 12 to March 22.
J-A-S-A SPELLS HOMERUNS Senior
Jasa Mitchell (Snow Shoe/Bald Eagle Area) set an IUP single-season homerun record this year, recording 11 homers in her 42 games. That breaks the previous record of nine set by Jodie Swavely in 2006. Mitchell finished second in the conference in deep balls, just one behind Seton Hill's Carlee Wickstrom. She also led the team with a .375 average, 51 hits and a .735 slugging percentage.
RBI QUEEN With 39 RBI on the season, junior
Stefanie McCoy (New Paris/Chestnut Ridge) led the PSAC in bringing runners around. Starting in all 42 games for the Crimson Hawks, she the regular season second on the team with a .368 average, 50 hits, a .537 slugging percentage, 10 stolen bases and a .434 on base percentage. She also led the team with 15 doubles.
BACK WHERE THEY BELONGThe Crimson Hawks have had a plethora of postseason success in recent years. Since 2000, they have made eight NCAA tournament appearances and nine PSAC tournament appearances. Perhaps their best season in program history came in 2011 when they won both the PSAC and Atlantic Region titles and earned a bid in the World Series.
UP NEXT With a win against Shippensburg, the Crimson Hawks would move on to face the winner of the No. 1 West Chester vs. No. 4 Edinboro matchup. A loss would match them up against the loser of that game. The double elimination tournament allows teams to lose just once, with dismissal coming after falling twice.
