INDIANA, PA – In their second strong defensive showing of the weekend, the ninth-ranked IUP field hockey team fell to visiting Limestone (SC) 2-0 at Miller Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks allowed just 10 total shots, with just three coming in the first half, but couldn't connect on the offensive end as they fall to 0-3 on the season. Limestone, unranked coming into the weekend, improved to 4-0.
Darian Shuker (Reading, Pa./Exeter ) saved six shots on the day while
Paige Klouser (Greencastle, Pa./Greencastle-Antrim) came up with a defensive save in front of the cage.
IUP totaled nine shots, including a penalty stroke by
Casey McGowan (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) midway through the second half that would have knotted the game at 1-1. Saints goalie Tabria Cochran came up with a nice save in the cage, however, to keep the Crimson Hawks off the board.
The Crimson Hawks had good looks down the stretch, getting off several shots in the final 10 minutes but Limestone's defense came up with impressive stops each time. The Saints added a late score to give the game its two-goal differential.
IUP continues its early season homestand this week when it hosts East Stroudsburg (2-2) on Wednesday and Lindenwood (0-3) on Sunday.
