INDIANA, Pa. - Freshman
Selena West (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) scored her second goal of the season to lead the Crimson Hawks to a 3-1 victory over Mercyhurst
The game, which was played during a constant rain at Miller Stadium, was a back-and-forth affair with both teams having scoring opportunities.
West's goal in the 13th minute put IUP ahead, as the Crimson Hawks never trailed in the game. Mercyhurst, though, answered back with a goal about six minutes later to tie the score at 1-1.
In the 29th minute, IUP utilized its penalty corner offense and
Amber Bailey (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) scored from in front of the cage off a short pass from
Haley Klinger (Lancaster, Pa./Garden Spot) as the Crimson Hawks took a 2-1 lead into halftime.
With under three minutes left in the game,
Matti Reightler (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) scored her sixth goal of the season on a pass from
Ericka Griffith (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) to finish off the 3-1 victory. In goal, freshman
Olivia Accardi (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) recorded five saves.
With the win, IUP moves to 7-10 overall and 4-6 in the PSAC. Mercyhurst drops to an identical 7-10 overall and 4-6 in the conference.
The Crimson Hawks return to the field for the final time in 2015 with a matchup Saturday against No. 5 Kutztown. Action is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Miller Stadium.
