Norfleet, Ugbede Lead Crimson Hawks to 11-point win at Gannon

ERIE, Pa. – Senior guard Brandon Norfleet (Virginia Beach, Va. /Landstown) matched his career-high of 26 points and senior forward Daddy Ugbede (Gardena, Calif./Serra) added 20 points to lead the IUP men's basketball team to a 72-61 victory at Gannon on Tuesday night at the Hammermill Center.

The win was the third straight for the Crimson Hawks, who improved to 5-3 overall and evened their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) record at 2-2 on the year.

It was the first win for IUP at the Hammermill Center in almost three years; a 72-65 victory on Dec. 8, 2012. The Crimson Hawks had lost three straight to the Golden Knights in Erie.

Norfleet and Ugbede helped end that streak, combining to shoot 18-of-27 from the field. Norfleet finished 10-of-16 from the field, his second straight game of 10 field goals and 26 points. He went 4-of-7 from three-point range while dishing out six assists and collecting three rebounds in 38 minutes.

Ugbede went 8-of-11 from the field and 4-of-7 from the foul line to finish with a season-high 20 points in his second consecutive start.

It was a tight game in the early going, with IUP holding onto a slim 18-15 lead before a 14-3 Crimson Hawks' run gave them a 32-18 lead after an Ugbede tip-in with 6:23 to play in the opening half. They would take a 17-point lead at the break on an Ugbede layup as time expired, putting the Crimson Hawks on top 43-26.

IUP took a 19-point lead early in the second half and held off a couple of late runs by Gannon, never letting the Golden Knights closer than nine points en route to the double-digit victory.

Sophomore guard Anthony Glover (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) also reached double-figures for the Crimson Hawks, scoring 12 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-5 from three-point range while also dishing out three assists.

IUP hit the road this weekend with back-to-back PSAC crossover games against Shippensburg on Friday night and Kutztown on Saturday afternoon.
