Brandon Norfleet (Virginia Beach, Va. /Landstown) netted a career-high 31 points and senior forward
Tevin Hanner (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) posted a double-double to help lead the IUP men's basketball team to an 82-74 win at Edinboro at the McComb Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon.
The Crimson Hawks moved into a tie for third place in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division with the victory, improving to 8-5 overall and 5-3 in the league. Edinboro leads the division with a 6-2 conference record and is 6-4 overall.
Norfleet scored his 31 by connecting on 12-of-23 from the floor and 6-of-9 from the foul line. He also dished out eight assists without a turnover, and grabbed four rebounds in the full 40 minutes.
Hanner tied a season-high with 11 points and grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in 21 minutes, adding four blocks, three assists and a steal. He did most of his damage from the foul line, connecting on 7-of-8, while six of his rebounds came on the offensive end. It was the first double-double of his career.
The Crimson Hawks led for nearly the entire game, as Norfleet knocked down a three-pointer to open the scoring for IUP just over one minute into the contest.
Edinboro grabbed an 18-17 lead nearing the midway point of the first half, but the Crimson Hawks responded with a 15-3 run, capped by a triple from junior guard
Brandon Spain (Baltimore, Md./Glen Burnie) as they took a 32-21 lead with less than four minutes before the half. A layup by Norfleet with eight seconds to play gave IUP a 42-29 lead heading into the break.
The Crimson Hawks held a double-figures lead for most of the second half and held off a late Edinboro run to score their second PSAC victory of the week.
IUP shot 44 percent from the field and turned the ball over just four times on the afternoon while forcing the Fighting Scots into 10 turnovers.
This was the final action for the Crimson Hawks in 2015. They'll return to action on Sunday, Jan. 3 at Cheyney (2-8, 1-6).
