Balanced Scoring Leads Men’s Basketball to 91-64 victory over Cheyney

CHEYNEY, Pa. – Four Crimson Hawks scored in double-figures as the IUP men's basketball team flew past Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division foe Cheyney 91-64 on Sunday afternoon at Cope Hall.

Sophomore guard Anthony Glover (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) and freshman forward Jacobo Diaz (Tenerife, Canary Islands, Spain/CBA Gran Canaria) led the scoring for IUP with 20 points apiece, as the Crimson Hawks won their third straight to improve to 9-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

IUP shot 52.5 percent (31-of-59) from the floor for the game, including 9-of-22 from three-point range, and also connected on 20-of-23 from the foul line.

Glover shot 7-of-14 from the field, including 4-of-11 from three-point range, and grabbed seven rebounds in 30 minutes of action. Diaz played 31 minutes off the bench, going 7-of-9 from the field and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. He added five boards, two assists and a blocked shot.

Also reaching double-figures in scoring for the Crimson Hawks were senior guard Brandon Norfleet (Virginia Beach, Va. /Landstown) with 17 points and senior forward Daddy Ugbede (Gardena, Calif./Serra) with 13 points.

IUP faced a hot-shooting Cheyney squad that finished 24-of-48 from the floor, including 6-of-16 from three-point range. The Crimson Hawks took the advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Wolves 37-to-20, grabbing 12 on the offensive glass. IUP also forced 13 turnovers.

A dunk by Norfleet gave the Crimson Hawks an early nine-point lead at 16-7 just 5:28 into the game. That lead went to double-digits at 30-20 on a layup by Ugbede, but the Wolves rallied with an 11-2 run with IUP eventually taking a 36-31 lead into halftime.

The Crimson Hawks opened the second stanza with a 14-4 run to jump on top 50-36. An 8-0 run minutes later made the lead 20 points at 58-38 as Diaz nailed a three-pointer with 12:20 to play. The IUP lead reached as much as 29 points in the final minutes en route to the 27-point blowout victory. It was the largest win margin and the most points scored for the Crimson Hawks this season.
