Field Hockey Falls to Sixth-Ranked Kutztown

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Two second half goals by Kutztown were too much for the Crimson Hawks as they fell to the sixth-ranked Golden Bears 3-1 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) field hockey game on Friday evening.

IUP picked up its goal from sophomore Mackenzie Stahle (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin East) in the 33rd minute, picking up a deflected redirect off the stick of sophomore McKenzie Noll (Lewisburg, Pa./Mifflinburg). It was Stahle's first career goal.

The Crimson Hawks fall to an even 2-2 on the season and are 0-1 in the conference standings. Kutztown improved to 4-2 and 1-0.

The Golden Bears outshot IUP 12-9 on the game, including 9-1 in the pivotal second half. The Crimson Hawks held an 8-3 shot advantage at halftime, with three of those coming from junior Sarah Zielinski (Nazareth, Pa./Nazareth). IUP also had a 7-4 advantage on penalty corners, including 6-1 in the first half.

Freshman Olivia Accardi (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) played all 70 minutes in the cage, finishing with four saves.

The Crimson Hawks are back in action next Wednesday when they head to Mansfield to face the Mountaineers.
