Field Hockey Falls at Home to No. 3 Shippensburg

INDIANA, Pa. – IUP's freshman field hockey goalkeeper Olivia Accardi (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) had a season-high seven saves, but the third-ranked Shippensburg offense was too much as the Crimson Hawks lost to the Raiders 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Miller Stadium.

The loss dropped the Crimson Hawks to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Shippensburg improved to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in the conference.

The IUP defense held strong in the first half, as Accardi came up with several big saves in the cage to help keep the Raiders off the board in the first 35 minutes.

Accardi finished with five saves in the half as Shippensburg had six total shots to the Crimson Hawks one. Shippensburg also had 10 penalty corners in the first, with the IUP defense led by junior Oliva Young and sophomore Kelsey O'Leary (Suffolk, Va./Lakeland) helping to turn away each attempt.

The Raiders got on the board first with a goal in the 42nd minute, followed by two quick scores in the 58th and 60th minutes to break open the game.

The Shippensburg offense finished with 11 total shots while the defense held the Crimson Hawks to two. The Raiders also totaled 13 corners compared to two for IUP.

It's a quick turnaround for the Crimson Hawks as they host Bellarmine (4-2) in non-conference action Sunday at 1 p.m.
