Reightler's Two Goals leads Field Hockey to 4-2 win over Mansfield

INDIANA, Pa. – Sophomore Matti Reightler (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) scored two goals in leading the IUP field hockey team to a 4-2 victory over Mansfield in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Wednesday afternoon at Miller Stadium.

The multi goal game was the second of Reightler's career and first since she totaled two goals at Mansfield on September 23, 2015. With the win the Crimson Hawks improve to 9-7 overall and 4-5 in league play. Meanwhile, the Mountaineers falls to 2-15 overall behind a 1-8 mark in PSAC competition.

Reightler put IUP on the scoreboard first as she found the back of the cage at the 2:37-mark off an assist from Olivia Young (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra). Mansfield tied the game at 1-1 just over three minutes later as Larissa Motts scored off a fast break. Reightler then put the Crimson Hawks ahead for good with her second tally at the 8:19-mark when she scored off a one timer from the baseline. Ericka Griffith (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) was credited with an assist on the go-ahead goal.

The Crimson Hawks extended their first half lead to 3-1 on a goal from Selena West (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) as she scored on a breakaway from 12-yards out in the 21st minute. Griffith then pushed the lead to 4-1 with her first goal of the season on a breakaway at the 22:53-mark.

In the second half, Alyssa Lerda (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) made a save on Meghan Griffin at the 37:36-mark. Minutes later Reightler nearly recorded a hat-trick as her shot was saved. Chelsea Tanco pulled the Mountaineers to within 4-2 with her goal in the 67th minute.

Lerda recorded two saves in earning the win while Mansfield goalie Laura Lawson made nine saves.

IUP concludes regular season play on Saturday, October 29 when it hosts Kutztown at 1 p.m., with the winner securing the final PSAC tournament berth.
