Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Crimson Hawks had four extra base hits from four different players in a 5-3 win at Pikeville in non-conference baseball action on Saturday afternoon. The scheduled doubleheader was shortened by rain, with just one game being played.
Ted DeSanti (Erie/Erie Cathedral Prep),
Chris Schaedel (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) and
Dan Sepic (York, Pa./Central York) each had doubles while
Wes Carson (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge) smacked a triple in the IUP win as the Crimson Hawks evened their record at 5-5 on the year.
DeSanti, Schaedel, Sepic and Carson also each had two hits and combined for three RBI and three runs scored.
Matt Douglas (Canonsburg/Canon-McMillan) was credited with the win, striking out four and giving up two earned runs in the first three innings before giving way to
Brian Albert (Pittsburgh, Pa./Plum). The freshman gave up just one hit and kept Pikeville scoreless through the last four innings.
IUP's big inning came in the fourth, breaking up a 1-1 tie with three runs to take a 4-1 lead. Pikeville came back with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, but IUP added an insurance run in the fifth on an RBI double by Sepic.
The Crimson Hawks will finish off their weekend series with Pikeville on Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
