Olivia Young’s OT Goal Lifts Field Hockey to 2-1 win at Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Senior defender Olivia Young (Palmyra, Pa./Palmyra) scored a goal just two minutes into overtime to lead IUP field hockey to a 2-1 extra time victory over Seton Hill on Monday evening.

Young's score came off a pass from junior Madelyn Mullen (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) in the 73rd minute, lifting the Crimson Hawks to their first win of the year, improving to 1-1 in the young season.

The shot by Young was her second of the overtime period, the only two shots in the extra time, as IUP didn't waste much time ending the game. Young also notched an assist, finding sophomore Selena West (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) just 9:20 into the first half to give the Crimson Hawks an early 1-0 lead.

Seton Hill (0-5) wasn't able to get on the board until the second half, scoring in the 43rd minute to tie the game at 1-1. IUP limited the Griffins opportunities down the stretch, but Seton Hill still had one final chance to end it in the final minute. A Griffins' shot with 28 seconds left was blocked and their penalty corner in the final seconds was turned away by IUP as time expired to force overtime.

The Crimson Hawks outshot Seton Hill 12-5 on the day, including a 6-0 advantage in the first half alone.

IUP will open its home season on Wednesday as the Crimson Hawks host No. 6 Shippensburg (4-0) at 4 p.m.
