IUP Field Hockey falls at top-ranked Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – No. 1-ranked Shippensburg was too much for the Crimson Hawks from the start, as IUP field hockey lost 9-1 on Saturday afternoon at the Robb Sports Complex.
 
IUP fell to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Shippensburg improved to 11-2 and 6-0.
 
Shippensburg outshot the Crimson Hawks 29-10 on the day, including 14-3 in the opening half.
 
Freshman Kimberly Kelly (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) scored for IUP in the 56th minute, banking one in off the left post on an assist by Madelyn Mullen (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts). It was Kelly's second goal of the season.
 
Freshman defender Madison Youst (Reinholds, Pa./Conrad Weiser) added her team-leading fourth defensive save of the season in the first half.
 
Up next
The Crimson Hawks are off until next Saturday when they head to Bloomsburg to face the Huskies (8-6, 4-2 PSAC). Gametime is scheduled for 11 a.m.
