IUP Field Hockey falls to No. 7 Bloomsburg in close match, 2-1

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The IUP field hockey team fell short, 2-1, to the number seven-ranked Bloomsburg Huskies on Saturday afternoon at Steph Pettit Stadium.

After Saturday's loss, the Crimson Hawks drop to 5-10 overall and 2-6 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC). Bloomsburg improves to 9-7 (overall) and 5-3 (PSAC).

Close game throughout, IUP was first to put a point on the board, scoring in the 28th minute to take the lead before halftime. Junior midfielder Matti Reightler (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) dribbled along the goal line, shooting it in past Bloomsburg's goalie Dana Sheply. Sophomore forward Kimberly Kelly (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) assisted on the goal.

Heading into the second half, Bloomsburg scored quick off of a rebound from an initial save by senior goaltender Alyssa Lerda (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland). Bloomsburg tacked on another soon after, scoring another goal in the 43th minute to take the lead 2-1 over IUP.

Taking three shots back-to-back with less than two minutes remaining, Reightler and the Crimson Hawks attacked the net but couldn't force overtime.

As a team, the Crimson Hawks tallied 10 shots, with seven on goal. In comparison, Bloomsburg riffled 14 shots, with four on goal.
