GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Crimson Hawks received goals from three different players, and senior goalie
Alyssa Lerda (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) posted a shutout in the cage, as IUP field hockey defeated Seton Hill 3-0 on Tuesday evening at Dick's Sporting Goods Field.
It was the second shutout in the last four games for Lerda, who helped IUP rebound from back-to-back losses to improve to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
All three IUP goals came in the second half, with the Crimson Hawks getting eight of their nine total shots in the final 35 minutes.
Junior
Kalista Gioglio (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) continued her hot streak as she put IUP on the board in the 43rd minute from the top of the circle. The assist was credited to classmate
Matti Reightler (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic), and the goal was Gioglio's fourth in the last five games.
Senior
Madelyn Mullen (Chester Springs, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) netted her third of the year, an unassisted goal in the 61st minute. Senior
Brittany Thornton (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) then added the insurance goal in the 67th minute, collecting a rebound off the shot of
Selena West (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) and putting it past the keeper.
PSAC standings
The win helped the Crimson Hawks keep pace in the PSAC standings, as the 2-2 mark is currently fifth out of 11 teams. The top six teams at the conclusion of the regular season advance to the conference tournament.
