First place finish for Colter Long highlights opening day for IUP Swimming at Magnus Cup

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Junior Colter Long (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) won the men's 50 yard breaststroke as the IUP men's and women's swimming teams competed in the opening day of Cleveland State's sixth annual Magnus Cup on Friday.
 
DAY ONE RESULTS

Long finished with a time of 25.03 in the 50 breast, adding a sixth place finish in the 200 yard IM to pace the Crimson Hawks. The IUP men scored 168 points and are sixth of 10 teams after the first day.
 
Long wasn't the only one who excelled in the 50 breast, as senior Shane Hallett (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) finished fifth (26.32) and sophomore Hussain Alzaid touched the wall in seventh (26.58).
 
The men's 200 freestyle relay, which included Long, finished fourth overall. The 400 medley relay was seventh.
 
On the women's side, junior Nicole Smith (Dover, PA/Dover) had the highest individual finish by coming in seventh in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:00.83. She also swam legs in the women's 400 medley (11th) and 200 freestyle (12th) relays.
 
The IUP women scored 59 points on the first day and are ninth out of 14 teams.

Day two of the Magnus Cup continues Saturday with the prelims at 9 a.m. and the finals at 5 p.m.
