EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The IUP men's cross country team finished its season with a 24th place finish at the 2017 NCAA Division II Championships at the Angel Mounds in Evansville, Ind. Saturday morning.
IUP was one of three teams from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) competing at the NCAA Championships, finishing second overall among its rival schools. Shippensburg finished 10th and Edinboro was 29th.
RESULTS
The Crimson Hawks were led by a trio of seniors in
Greg Beaudette (Johnston, R.I./Bishop Hendricken),
Austin Cooper (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) and
Dalton Trump (Lancaster, Pa./J.P. McCaskey). Beaudette was IUP's top finisher in 61st place with a time of 32:19.6. Cooper finished in 99th at 32:49.5 and Trump followed in 110th with a time of 33:03.7.
The 61st place finish by Beaudette is the best by an IUP men's runner since Hillary Mugun earned All-American honors with a 33rd place finish in 2009.
A total of 32 teams and 249 runners competed in the NCAA Championships. IUP earned a spot by finishing third at the Atlantic Region Championships two weeks ago, its first men's team berth in the national championships since 1993 after getting individual qualifiers in each of the last four years.
Also running for IUP on Saturday was junior
Michael Dautlick (Patton, Pa./Cambria Heights), sophomore
Noah Mandel (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek), freshman Sam Lenze and sophomore
Ryan Louther (Indiana, Pa./Indiana). Dautlick was 197th overall (34:23.2), Mandel was 215th (34:45.3), Lenze was 223rd (34:55.9), and Louther was 242nd (35:37.1).
