CLEVELAND, Ohio – Juniors
Nicole Smith (Dover, PA/Dover) and
Colter Long (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) and freshman Lucas Bellier each set new school records as the IUP men's and women's swimming teams competed in the second day of Cleveland State's sixth annual Magnus Cup on Saturday.
Smith broke the IUP women's 200 freestyle record, swimming the opening leg of the 800 free relay in a time of 1:50.99. The time broke
Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area)'s three-year old record of 1:52.32 from the 2014-15 season.
That women's 800 free relay team finished 10th overall with a time of 7:45.92.
Long followed an individual win on Friday with a new school record in the 100 breaststroke on Saturday, swimming a time of 55.82 in the morning preliminaries. The time broke Marek Maloposki's 2005 record of 55.97, one of the oldest school records still standing. Long then finished fourth overall in the finals with a time of 56.14.
Long is putting together an impressive weekend, as he also finished fifth overall in the 100 butterfly and swam the second leg on IUP's 200 medley relay that finished fifth overall.
Bellier broke the IUP men's freshman record in the 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:08.77. The time helped him finish in sixth place in Saturday night's finals. That just edged the previous mark held by Brandon Hopkins, who swam a 4:08.99 in the event back in 2012.
The IUP women remained in ninth place after two days at the Magnus Cup with 111.5 points. It's the third best score of the Division II teams at the meet and trails overall leader Akron (1163.5 points). The men are in sixth place with 358 points, the second Division II team in the standings. Host Cleveland State (1015.5) leads the men's standings.

The Crimson Hawks wrap up their time in Cleveland tomorrow with the third day of the Magnus Cup. Prelims start at 9 a.m. and the finals are scheduled for 3 p.m.
