CLEVELAND, Ohio – The IUP men's and women's swimming teams wrapped up their weekend in Ohio by combining for 11 top-10 finishes in Sunday action at Cleveland State's sixth annual Magnus Cup.
The men had nine of those top-10s, including two from senior
Shane Hallett (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) in the 100 IM (10th, 56.83) and 200 breaststroke (eighth, 2:08.28).
RESULTS
Junior
Colter Long (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) had the best finish of the day, coming in second in the 100 IM with a time of 51.74. Classmate
Robert Jones (Biglerville, PA/Biglerville) was seventh in the same event with a time of 54.16. Senior
Mace Long (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) and sophomore Nathan Dill finished in seventh and 10th place, respectively, in the 200 butterfly with times of 1:56.01 and 1:57.63.
Senior
Russell Oliver (Barbados/Kelly College) was a ninth place finisher in the 50 backstroke with a time of 24.72, sophomore Hussain Alzaid finished 10th in the 200 breaststroke at 2:11.27, and the men's 400 freestyle relay finished eighth with a time of 3:07.88.
The IUP men moved up one spot in the standings after a good Sunday, finishing the weekend fifth out of 10 teams with 574 points. Host Cleveland State finished first among the men with 1,432 points.
On the women's side, juniors
Regan Chalk (Hanover, PA/New Oxford) and
Nicole Smith (Dover, PA/Dover) had top 10s in the 100 IM and 100 freestyle respectively. Chalk finished in 1:00.01 and Smith in 52.07.
The IUP women finished ninth out of 15 teams with 165.5 points. Akron finished atop the women's standings with 1809.5 points.
