THE WEEKEND AT A GLANCE
The Crimson Hawks travel to Erie to open up Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) West play with the sixth-ranked Mercyhurst Lakers. The entire four-game series with No. 6 Mercyhurst this weekend will be played in Erie. This change has been made due field conditions and forecasted weather in Indiana this weekend. Mercyhurst's Phillip D. Hirtzel Field has a turf surface. Friday's doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. First pitch for Saturday's two games is also 1 p.m. IUP enters the weekend after losing three games to No. 14 Millersville in North Carolina last weekend while Mercyhurst looks to extend its winning streak to seven games after beating Ohio Dominican 6-0 back on March 6.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR
*Junior infielder
Dan Sepic (York, Pa./Central York) leads the way for the Crimson Hawks as he ranks among the team leaders in RBI (six – first), slugging percentage (.463 – first), batting average (.317 – second), hits (11 – second) and and on-base percentage (.404 – third)
*Against Millersville, Sepic hit .400 (4-for-10) with a home run, two RBI and a run scored
*Junior catcher
Wes Carson (Woodstock, Md./Marriots Ridge) leads IUP with a .333 batting average while ranking second on the team with 11 hits. He has played all 12 games while posting a .455 on-base percentage, .424 slugging percentage and a .879 OPS
*Sophomore RHP
Jeff Allen (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg Area), who will start game one on Friday, is 1-0 with a 1.26 ERA in three starts. In 14.1 innings of work, he has struck out 19 (11.9 K/9) while scattering just nine hits
*While Allen will get the start in game one on Friday, sophomore
Colin Claus (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny) will start game two on Friday
