BLOOMSBURG, Pa. –
Carly Petney (Gallitzin, Pa./Penn Cambria) and
Heather Sternby (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) take top seeded times into the finals after IUP women's track & field competed on the second day of the 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Championships.
Petney ran a personal-best time of 12.07 in the 100 meters, 0.04 ahead of Slippery Rock's Emily Horstman.
Emily Dubler (Johnsonburg, Pa. /Johnsonburg) also posted a personal-best in the event, running a wind-aided 12.28 to finish eighth overall in the prelims to advance to Saturday's finals.
WOMEN'S RESULTS
Another top seed heading into Saturday is Sternby, who ran a personal-best time of 56.05 in the 400 meters, more than a second faster than the next best time. Sternby also moves to the finals in the 200 meters, finishing with a time of 24.93, good for the fifth seed.
Lizzy Cunningham (Hastings, Pa. /Northern Cambria) picked up points with a second place finish in the 800 meters, finishing second with a time of 2:12.18, a personal best. She'll have a chance for a conference title on Saturday, moving to the finals of the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:04.04.
Liz Coppella (Bradford, Pa. /Bradford) also picked up points with a fourth place finish in the pole vault, clearing a height of 3.56 meters.
Jada Wilson (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) is another IUP hurdler who moved on from qualifying, advancing in the 400 hurdles and 100 hurdles with times of 1:03.53 and 14.99, respectively.
IUP women 10th of after second day
The Crimson Hawks are 10th of 14 teams after the first day of the PSAC Outdoor Championships with 14 points. Shippensburg and Slippery Rock are tied for first with 54 points, with Bloomsburg in third with 37 points.
