Baseball earns Top Team GPA in PSAC; IUP Athletics ranks fourth overall

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – IUP baseball has been recognized as by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) as the sport's winner of the Team GPA Award for the 2016-17 academic year.
 
The baseball program, under the direction of first year head coach Anthony Rebyanski, posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.331 for 2016-17. Trailing the Crimson Hawks in second was annual winner Seton Hill, which checked in with a 3.303 GPA.
 
Of the 32 players on the roster, the Crimson Hawks totaled 37 Dean's List recipients combined (19 fall, 18 spring), along with 11 perfect 4.0 GPA semesters. Ryan LaCoe (Hershey, Pa./Hershey), Christian McClure (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley), and Dan Sepic (York, Pa./Central York) each put up a 4.0 GPA for the entire year.  
 
As an overall athletic program, IUP ranks fourth out of 18 schools in the PSAC with a cumulative grade point average of 3.273. This GPA is up from last year's 3.227, which ranked fifth overall.
 
Two IUP teams finished second overall in their respective sports, including women's basketball with a 3.494 GPA and women's volleyball at 3.655. The IUP institution-high was achieved by women's cross country, putting up a 3.700 GPA for the year, finishing fifth overall within the sport.
 
PSAC academic awards
The awards, released at the conclusion of the academic year, honor the teams with the top cumulative grade point average in each of the sponsored sports within the PSAC. The league hosts 23 championships, however, for the award purposes, indoor and outdoor track & field are counted as a single sport.
