St. Charles, MO. – The IUP field hockey team starts their season off 0-2 after suffering a heartbreaking 3-2 loss during the final four seconds of the game against the Bellarmine University Knights, Saturday, at Harlen C. Hunter Stadium.
Bellarmine defender, Carly Anson, scored the game winning goal against the Crimson Hawks at the 69:56-mark. With the win, the Knights start their season 1-0.
IUP took an early lead in the first half with a goal by junior forward,
Matti Reightler (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic), at the 2:06-mark. The Crimson Hawks junior forward,
Selena West (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg), kept the game alive late in the second half, with a score-tying goal at the 62:04-mark.
Senior goaltender, Alyssa Lerder, totaled seven saves, matching Bellarmine's goalie, also totaling seven saves. IUP combined for a total of 10 shots on goal.
The Crimson Hawks will face the Seton Hill Griffins for their home opener, Wednesday, September 6, at 7 p.m.
