ERIE, Pa. – The IUP field hockey team suffered a 2-1 loss against Mercyhurst Wednesday evening at Tullio Field.
The Crimson Hawks held strong throughout most of the first period, until Mercyhurst's Taylor Basler notched a goal for the Lakers at the 28:21-mark. IUP was unable to respond in the first period. A goal scored by junior midfielder
Matti Reightler (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) eighteen minutes into the second period tied the match. Freshman midfielder
Camen Weber (Shermans Dale, Pa./West Perry) assisted on the scoring play. With less than two minutes to go, the Lakers scored the go-ahead goal on a cross pass from the left hand side of the box. This tally was ultimately the game winner, as the Crimson Hawks could not muster a charge in the closing moments.
IUP was outshot 16-14, with six of those on goal.
With the loss, IUP holds an overall record of 3-4 and remain 0-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
