INDIANA, Pa. – Senior goaltender
Olivia Accardi had another 20-save performance but it was not enough as the Crimson Hawks lost 2-1 to Bloomsburg in overtime Bloomsburg Saturday evening at George P. Miller Stadium.
With the loss IUP falls to 3-8 and 2-2 in the PSAC while Bloomsburg improves to 7-3, 1-2.
Defense was strong during the first few minutes of play, as Bloomsburg and IUP combined for just three shots through the first 14 minutes of play.
It wasn't until after 14:13 of action that IUP freshman defender
Hannah Miller scored off a rebound shot assisted by senior midfielder
Kalista Gioglio. Accardi kept the Huskies scoreless for the rest of the half with five saves as IUP took a 1-0 lead at the break.
Bloomsburg answered back in the 42nd minute of play on its second shot of the half to tie the score up at 1-1.
The Huskies offense dominated possession in the second half with the help of 16 penalty corners, including 11 consecutively.
The IUP defense, led by Accardi, held up under the constant fire, saving 14 shots over a 15 minute span. Freshman defender
Juliette Sauter also had two defensive saves in the second half.
Bloomsburg continued to dominate possession in the overtime period with five corners and four shots, eventually scoring with 1:58 left with a breakaway goal.
Accardi now has two games of 20-plus saves and four of 10 or more. She leads the PSAC with 105 saves as no other league goalie has faced as many shots this year.
