Late goal pushes No. 7 Kutztown past IUP Field Hockey

INDIANA, Pa.- Senior goalie Olivia Accardi had 16 saves but a Kutztown goal with no time left pushed the seventh-ranked Golden Bears past the Crimson Hawks 2-1 Saturday evening at George P. Miller Stadium.

Senior midfielder Kalista Gioglio was the first to light up the board in the first five minutes of play with an assist from classmate Emma Smiley. With six minutes left in the first half of play, Kutztown scored tying the game at 1-1.

Kutztown's defense remained strong throughout the second half of play denying the Crimson Hawks any chance of a shot on goal, shutting them out. IUP had eight saves while Kutztown had none. The Golden Bears had six corners in a row, but the last one was the most crucial to them. As the clock ran out the corner continued allowing Kutztown to score the game winning goal.

The Golden Bears outshot the Crimson Hawks 18-1 and had an 18-1 advantage over them in corners.

With the loss IUP falls 3-12, 2-6 in the PSAC.
