INDIANA, Pa.- The fifth-ranked Shippensburg Raiders dominated on both sides of the field from start to finish as IUP field hockey lost 4-1 Saturday afternoon at George P. Miller Stadium.
Shippensburg opened up the scoring in the 21st minute, adding a second goal to take a 2-0 lead just 32 seconds later.
The Crimson Hawks (3-13, 2-7 PSAC) got on the board 10 minutes later when junior midfielder Brianna Lubarsky netted in her first goal of the season, cutting the Raiders lead in half to make the score 2-1 at the end of the first half of play.
In the second half the defenses remained strong on both sides. It was not until the 61st minute that Shippensburg broke through the IUP defense with a score to take a 3-1 lead. The Raiders added an insurance goal minutes later to close out the scoring at 4-1.
The Raiders (13-3, 7-2 PSAC) outshot the Crimson Hawks 23-4 overall, including 14-3 in shots on goal. Shippensburg also totaled 19 penalty corners to IUP's one.
Senior Day
Prior to game time Saturday, IUP celebrated the collegiate careers of its five seniors, including: Selena Gonzales West, Emma Smiley, Matti Reightler, Kalista Gioglio, and Olivia Accardi.
