IUP Field Hockey falls to No. 7 Millersville in double overtime

MILLERSVILLE, Pa.- Senior goaltender Olivia Accardi had 14 saves it just wasn't enough as the IUP field hockey fell to No. 7 Millersville 2-1 in double overtime Saturday afternoon.

Accardi faced a bevy of shots from the Marauders, who gave IUP its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) loss of the season. The Crimson Hawks fall to 2-7 overall and 1-1 in the league. Millersville is now 5-3 and 1-1.

Millersville wasted no time as the Marauders scored just 1:26 into the game. Four minutes later the Crimson Hawks evened things up, as junior midfielder Lizzi Clemmer found the back of the cage off a penalty corner. Matti Reightler and Camen Weber were credited with the assist.

Millersville dominated play in the second half, outshooting the Crimson Hawks 14-0 while accumulating 11 penalty corners. Accardi weathered the storm and received some defensive help from Taylor Flanagan and Emma Smiley, who combined for three defensive saves in the game.

During the first round of overtime play, Millersville out shot IUP 4-3 and held a 4-2 advantage in penalty corners. With solid defense on both sides of the ball, play continued for a final round.

With just 9:13 left to play, the Marauders finally split through the IUP defense and scored securing the win.
