KENT, Ohio – IUP track & field athletes hit 12 qualifying marks as the Crimson Hawks competed in the Kent State Tune Up Saturday afternoon in Ohio. It was the final meet before next weekend's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.
Among those qualifying marks were five season bests and three new personal records. Two Crimson Hawks hit new qualifying marks ahead of next week's conference championship meet.
Heather Sternby (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) in the women's 60 meters and
Cameron Gray (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) in the men's 60 meters were the two new qualifiers. Running her third collegiate 60 ever and second of the year finished in 8.02 seconds. Gray, who competed in his first meet of the season, sprinted to a time of 7.18 seconds.
Julius Rivera (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) won the men's 60 with a season-best time of 6.86, which is also an NCAA provisional qualifying time.
Daniel Jackson (Akron, Ohio/Archbishop Hoban) also hit a PSAC time in the 60 at 7.20 seconds and leapt 6.46 meters (21-02.5) in the long jump, another qualifying mark.

Justin Jones (Lansdown, Pa./Cardinal O'hara) ran a personal best in the 800 meters, finishing sixth in the event with a time of 1:55.98. Another season best mark came from
Charles Wilson-Adams (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone), who cleared 2.05 meters (6-08.75) in the men's high jump to finish third. That was an NCAA provisional mark and tied his career best.
Other men's high jumpers who hit qualifying marks were
Christian Jones (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) at 2.00 meters and
Ricky Fayad (Hookstown, Pa./South Side) at 1.95 meters. They finished fifth and eighth, respectively in the event
Other notable finishes Saturday included
DJ Horton (Kane, Pa./Kane Area), who finished second overall in the pole vault with an NCAA provisional height of 5.05 meters (16-06.75);
Donovan Burris (Frederick, MD/Oakdale) in the men's shot put with a mark of 13.62 meters (44-08.25); and
Jada Wilson (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) in the women's 60 hurdles with a time of 9.52 seconds.

The 2018 PSAC Indoor Championships will be hosted by Edinboro University at the Mike S. Zafirovski Sports and Recreation Dome Feb. 24-25. Unofficially, IUP men's and women's athletes have combined for 35 qualifying marks at next weekend's championships.
