YORK, Pa. – Junior
Nicole Smith (Dover, PA/Dover) won the 200 yard freestyle with a school record time as both IUP men's and women's swim teams slid up in the rankings on the second day of the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships Friday at the Graham Aquatic Center.
Smith broke her own school record first in the prelims with a time of 1:50.16 and followed that up with a blazing time of 1:49.90 to win the finals. Smith's times were the two fastest of any swimmer in the prelims and finals.

Smith was also just .20 seconds away from tying the PSAC Championship meet record of 1:49.70 set by West Chester's Kitty Fischer in 2014. Her finals time is also an NCAA B cut qualifying time, the second in as many days for Smith, who also hit a B cut time in the 50 free Wednesday night.
Smith's performance highlighted a day that saw both IUP team move up to third place in their respective rankings.
The IUP men jumped up two spots from fifth to third place out of seven teams with 220.5 points. IUP trails first place West Chester (365 points) and second place Bloomsburg (314.5).
The IUP women's team moved up one spot to third overall out of 12 teams with 424 points. West Chester and Bloomsburg are also one-two in the women's rankings with 878 points and 544.5 points, respectively.
IUP men score 142.5 points Thursday to make leap to second
The Crimson Hawks had nine individual scorers to go along with a pair of top five relay scores as they moved up two spots, passing Clarion and Gannon in the rankings.
RJ Hammond (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) had the top finish at fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.23. He was one of five Crimson Hawks in the top 14 of the event, as he was joined by fifth place
Colter Long (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) at 50.45, eighth place
Russell Oliver (Barbados/Kelly College) at 51.20, 11th place
Mace Long (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) at 51.28, and 14th place
Noah Brockway (York, PA/Dallastown) at 51.87.
Lucas Bellier (Orléans, France) and
Gerard Morato (Barcelona, Spain) went five-six in the 400 IM with times of 4:04.94 and 4:06.16l. Bellier's time set a new IUP men's freshman record.
Robert Jones (Biglerville, PA/Biglerville) finished 15th in the event with a time of 4:16.15.
Sterling Tate (York, PA/Dallastown) was the ninth individual scorer with a 12th place finish in the 200 freestyle at 1:43.93. The 400 medley relay was third (3:23.24) and the 200 freestyle relay was fifth (1:25.18).
11 score for IUP women as they score 284 points
Led by Smith's first place finish, 11 IUP women scored in individual events to go along with two relay scoring teams.
The 400 IM netted four finishers in the top 17 overall, led by
Beatriz Gonzalez (Barcelona, Spain/Pane Manyanet) in fifth with a time of 4:34.15.
Bria Otwell (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) trailed in seventh at 4:36.48, Gabby Gironda was 14th at 4:43.89 in the B final and Sophie Manges finished 17th in the C final with a time of 4:43.49.
In the 100 butterfly,
Regan Chalk (Hanover, PA/New Oxford) boasted the Crimson Hawks' second best individual finish of the night, touching the wall in third with a time of 56.34.
Sara Bertram (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) finished 11th at 57.85,
Jessica Cochran (Herminie, Pa./Yough) was 12th at 57.89, and
Aniella Janosky (Dover/Dover Area) was 17th at 57.98.
Janosky also scored in the 200 freestyle, joining Smith in the event by finishing 13th with a time of 1:55.88. Bertram also added another scoring event with a 23rd place finish at 1:58.25.
The 400 medley relay team finished fourth (3:52.40) and the 200 freestyle relay finished seventh (1:37.40).

The third day of the PSAC Championships continues at 10 a.m. Friday with prelims. Finals start at 6 p.m.
