INDIANA, Pa. –
Nicole Smith (Dover, PA/Dover) won the 50 and 500 yard freestyle, highlighting the Pidgeon Memorial Invitational for IUP swimming Saturday at the Memorial Field House's Pidgeon Natatorium.
The Crimson Hawks hosted Lock Haven, California (Pa.) and Bloomsburg. The IUP women finished second overall out of four teams with 723 points. Bloomsburg's 1,277 points were first, with Cal scoring 326 points and Lock Haven 228.
Only Bloomsburg's men's team competed with the Crimson Hawks, with the Huskies scoring 1,136 points and IUP trailing with 743.

Smith won the 50 freestyle with a time of 25.22 and the 500 freestyle in 5:08.35.
Those were two of the eight individual victories for IUP swimmers on Saturday. Women joining Smith in the win column were
Regan Chalk (Hanover, PA/New Oxford) and
Jessica Cochran (Herminie, Pa./Yough). Chalk won the 200 IM with a time of 2:15.97 and Cochran the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.82.
Four different IUP men won individual events Saturday, including newcomer Gerard Morato in the 200 IM with a time of 2:02.75.
Colter Long (Hollidaysburg, Pa./Hollidaysburg Area) won the 100 breaststroke at 59.88 and
Shane Hallett (Boiling Springs, Pa./Boiling Springs) the 200 breaststroke at 2:15.19.
Noah Brockway (York, PA/Dallastown) also won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:58.99.

This was the final tune-up for the Crimson Hawks before the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships. The four-day championships in York, Pa. will run from Feb. 21-24.
