LEWISBURG, Pa. – Junior pole vaulter
DJ Horton (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) broke his own IUP record for the second time in the last three weekends as the Crimson Hawks indoor track & field teams competed at the Bucknell Tune-Up Friday night.
Horton cleared 5.07 meters (16-07.5), finishing first overall and eclipsing his old record of 5.03 meters he set on Jan. 27 at the SPIRE Midwest Open in Ohio.
Already a provisional qualifier for the NCAA Championships in Pittsburg, Kansas, Horton now has the sixth best vault in Division II this year.
MEET RESULTS | IUP men finish 3rd of 8, women finish 4th of 7
Charles Wilson-Adams (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) posted a season-best in the high jump, winning the event and posting an NCAA provisional mark by clearing 2.04 meters (6-08.25). It is also the fourth best height in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) this year.
He was part of an IUP contingent that took the top three spots in the event, with
Christian Jones (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) and
Ricky Fayad (Hookstown, Pa./South Side) tying for second with a height of 1.94 meters (6-04.25).
Julius Rivera (Monroevilla, Pa./Gateway) posted a third NCAA provisional performance, tying his season-best in the 60 meters with a time of 6.88 seconds, the second fastest time in the conference.
Six more Crimson Hawks post PSAC performances
Other IUP men with highlights from Friday include
Austin Cooper (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) with a time of 4:25.29 in the mile and
Dylan Ruefle (Allison Park, Pa./Hampton) with a time of 1:58.45 in the 800 meters. Both were fourth place finishers and posted PSAC qualifying times.
On the women's side,
Raven Russell (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) and
Emily Dubler (Johnsonburg, Pa./Johnsonburg) hit PSAC times in the 60 meters with times of 7.73 (second) and 8.11 (fifth) seconds.
Heather Sternby (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) was third in the 400 meters with a time of 59.51 and
Liz Coppella (Bradford, Pa./Bradford) cleared 3.50 meters (11-05.75) in the pole vault to finish third.
