INDIANA, Pa. – Seniors
Luise von Agris (Castrop-Rauxel, Germany/Adalbet-Stifter-Gymnasium) and
Jada Wilson (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) were named the IUP Athletes of the Week, announced by the IUP Sports Information Office Monday morning.
Von Agris helped lead the IUP women's tennis team to the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championship with a pair of 5-0 wins in last week's tournament. Von Agris was named the PSAC Tournament MVP for her efforts, going a combined 3-0 including the title-clinching singles victory.
She paired with
Jarka Petercakova (Bratislava, Slovakia/Sport Gymnasium) for her only win during IUP's victory over West Chester in the semifinals, defeating the Golden Rams' top doubles team by a score of 8-2. The two then defeated Mercyhurst's best doubles team 8-3 and defeated the Lakers' Kayla Frost 6-4, 7-6 for the deciding victory.
Von Agris has been named an IUP Athlete of the Week four times in the last five weeks and has earned the award five times in her career.
This is Wilson's first ever IUP weekly honor after she ran an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time in the 400 hurdles at Ohio State's Jesse Owens Track & Field Classic Saturday.
Wilson finished fifth overall in the event with a time of 1:01.69, a new personal best. She finished the weekend with the fastest 400 hurdles time in the PSAC, third fastest in the Atlantic Region, and 25th in Division II this year.
