SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Although junior forward Kimberly Kelly netted in her first goal of the season, the IUP field hockey team dropped a 2-1 decision at Slippery Rock Wednesday night.
The Crimson Hawks fall to 1-4 overall while Slippery Rock improves to 4-1.
Kayla Ulrich was the first to put one up for Slippery Rock in the first 19 minutes of play. Kelly's goal tied the game at 1-1 with just 1:05 left to play in the first half. Senior midfielder Matti Reightler assisted on Kelly's goal, her second dish of the year. Slippery Rock answered back in the 56th minute, scoring the game winning goal and leading 2-1.
The Crimson Hawks outshot Slippery Rock 14-10, including 11-4 in the first half, but when it came to shots on goal they matched up with seven. IUP led in penalty corners 5-4 in the first half but matched up with Slippery Rock with four in the second half.
Senior goalie Olivia Accardi had five saves in goal for the Crimson Hawks.
