Crimson Hawks rebound with 3-0 win at Slippery Rock

INDIANA, Pa. – Brianna Lubarsky scored two goal as IUP field hockey ended a four-game slide with a 3-0 win over Slippery Rock under the lights at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium Wednesday night.

IUP completely shut down the Slippery Rock offense, outshooting The Rock 10-1 including 8-0 with shots on goal.

The emphatic win snapped the Crimson Hawks recent losing streak as they got back over .500 at 5-4 overall and evened their conference record at 1-1. Slippery Rock fell to 2-7 and 0-2 on the year.

IUP tallied goals in each of the first three quarters.

Lubarsky put the first tally on the scoreboard in the eight minute with a dish from Blaise Cugini. IUP added to its lead 14 minutes later when Lubarsky picked up goal number two, gathering the ball off a Rock defender to beat the goalie with Georgiana Chiavacci getting credit on the assist.

Chiavacci added the final score of the night in the 45th minute with Cugini adding another helper on a fast break.

The win was the Crimson Hawks' fourth shutout of the season with the three goals the most since the season-opening 5-1 win over Frostburg State.
