TEMPE, Ariz. – The season's first Division regional rankings were released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as the IUP women's tennis program boasts six players among the best in the Atlantic Region.
Freshman
Joanna Stralka highlights the group as the No. 3-ranked singles player in the Atlantic. Stralka had a fabulous fall debut for the Crimson Hawks with a 14-1 overall singles record while also taking home the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) singles title.
Other IUP singles players in the rankings included senior
Katya Minchenkova at No. 12, sophomore
Idoia Huerta at No. 15 and sophomore
Thais Andreotti at No. 18.
Minchenkova went 8-5 in the fall, making it to the quarterfinals of the PSAC singles championship. Huerta had a 5-2 singles record in the fall while Andreotti went 6-3.
Two more Crimson Hawks received rankings as IUP had three doubles teams in the top 10 of the region.
Minchenkova and Huerta are No. 4, Stralka and senior
Mariana Valenzuela are No. 6 and Andreotti and junior
Maria Magraner are No. 7.
Minchenkova/Huerta went 7-5 in the fall, including a trip to the PSAC doubles championship match. Stralka/Valenzuela had an 8-1 record and Andreotti/Magraner went 8-2.
As a team, the Crimson Hawks had a 52-27 (.658) singles record and a 26-16 (.619) doubles mark during four fall tournaments and two dual matches.
